Conditions of Adoption & Declaration

Animal Welfare Act 1999 — Duty of Care

Under the Animal Welfare Act 1999 (NZ), every owner must ensure their animal's physical, health, and behavioural needs are met. The adopter agrees to provide adequate food, fresh water, shelter, veterinary treatment, and the opportunity to display normal behaviour.

Dog Control Act 1996 — Registration & Microchipping

The adopter agrees to register the dog with their local territorial authority within one month of adoption and ensure the dog is microchipped with current contact details on the NZ Companion Animal Register (NZCAR).

Veterinary Care

All veterinary costs after adoption are the sole responsibility of the adopter. Connected Companions strongly recommends obtaining pet insurance within 14 days of adoption.

Desexing

If the dog has not been desexed prior to adoption, the adopter agrees to have it desexed by an NZ-registered veterinarian at the appropriate age and provide proof upon request.

Privacy Act 2020

Personal information is held by Connected Companions and used solely to assess this application and support animal welfare, in accordance with the Privacy Act 2020 (NZ). You have the right to access and correct your information at any time.

Long-Term Commitment

The adopter acknowledges that dogs require care for 10–16 years and commits to providing a permanent, loving home for the lifetime of the dog.

Home Inspection

The adopter agrees to allow a Connected Companions representative to conduct a mutually agreed home visit to verify suitability of the living environment.

⚠ Return Obligation — Rehoming or Surrender

If at any time the adopter is considering giving up, rehoming, transferring, or surrendering the dog for any reason, the adopter must contact Connected Companions in the first instance before making any other arrangements. Connected Companions must be given the right of first refusal to accept the dog back. The dog must not be advertised, gifted, sold, transferred, or surrendered to any third party, pound, or shelter without prior written agreement from Connected Companions. Failure to comply constitutes a breach of this agreement.
